Strategic Marketing & BD Tip 2/9/2026

When asked how they define marketing, most owners primarily answer in terms activities out in their markets. While that may be dominant in large companies, not so much for smaller ones. Big companies are in many departments so marketing surely is activity outside the front door. But smaller companies would be much better served if they viewed their marketing as both outside and inside. Business owners must pay close attention to aligning internal operations with the external market. Sounds obvious, doesn’t it? You’d be surprised how many dis-alignments there are. Management & Leadership Tip 2/10/2026
There are two fundamental steps owners must accept as responsibilities to successfully manage their businesses. They are (1) teaching your people ways that the customers must be respected and valued and (2) teaching them the same about their fellow employees. If that is achieved, the odds are much better that the businesses will improve and grow. You must never assume your people know how to think and act that way. Clearly teach them what you expect. Recruiting and Hiring Tip 2/11/2026
It is very common for owners or managers to ask new candidates about why they left their prior jobs. That is a good start to learning about them. The problem lies in the fact that the interviewers stop there. The answers at that point are usually planned and general. The probing should just begin. What did they like about the job? What did they like the least? How would they rate their managers and why? How would they numerically rate the company and why? With questions like these, and more, you begin to get much more accurate info. Think about it. ©Viscon Services
Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Tip 2/12/2026
CRM managers, while the primary purpose of the role is to solidify the relationship between the company and customers, there are times when decisions go in the opposite direction. That’s when not so good news has to be given to the customers. Give them the news quickly and immediately tell them it is not good news. While it may upset them, they will respect you and the decision more than if it given to them directly and not in an ‘excuse’ manner. Think about it. ©Viscon Services
Sales & Selling Tip 2/13/2026
It’s very important for salespeople to remember that no matter how much they like the product they are selling, regardless of how fantastic the features are, despite how good the sale price is, the most important issue is learning what would satisfy the buyer. Sometimes, a salesperson can turn off a customer by trying to sell something that really will not satisfy the buyer. Sell customers to their satisfaction levels, not yours. Think about it. ©Viscon Services
